4Cs DIAMOND GUIDE

The price of a diamond is directly affected by the 4Cs (the 4 characteristics of a diamond used throughout the world to classify the rarity of the stone):

Cut
Color
Clarity
Carat

Different properties of the 4Cs in the diamond greatly influence the rarity of the stone, and therefore the price. There are two points to remember when considering the 4Cs:

Each ‘C' is equal - in terms of the beauty of the stone. The lustre, brilliance and beauty of the diamond depend upon all 4 factors together. No single ‘C' has a greater affect on beauty than any of its counterparts.

Each of the 4Cs will not be reduced in value over time (unless damaged by an accident).

Cut
The cut of a diamond refers to the diamond's proportions and is probably the most important of the four C's. The angles and finish is what enables diamonds to reflect light and thus give the diamond it;s brillance. The better the cut, the more light is reflected back through the table and thus more brilliance can be observed

5C Jewelry produces only the finest make diamonds. the fine cut resembles the proportions of ideal cut and thus creates maximum fire and brilliance.

5C Jewelry is specialized in round and princess-cut diamonds. However, through it's partners 5C Jewelry is able to offer all shapes and sizes, making it truly a one stop shop for diamonds

Carat
Carat is a measure of weight. One carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams. One carat can also be divided into 100 “points.” A 0.75 carat diamond is the same as a 75-points or 3/4 carat diamond.
1 carat =0.2 gram = 100 points

Color
The color of a diamond is represented by a letter of the alphabet, starting with letter D. A colorless diamond (D) allows more light to pass through and thus creates more brilliance. Diamonds with no color are very rare and expensive. A more universal color range is G to L, which is extensively used in diamond jewelry.

Color differences are very subtle and it is very difficult to see the difference between, for example, an F and a G. Therefore, colors are graded under controlled lighting conditions and are compared to a master set for accuracy.
